ESD Profile | Sustainability Specialization for Teacher Students
This project develops a new study profile in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within Leuphana's profile-study programme for future teachers. With Lower Saxony's 2021 ESD decree making sustainability education a binding element of all school curricula — and every school required to appoint an ESD officer. Pre-service teachers need both subject-matter grounding and reflective competencies to take on these roles. Building on the existing profile-study format with its five-element ePortfolio, the project designs and pilots an ESD profile that combines ESD foundations with a structured reflection track on transformative professional development.
The project is funded by Leuphana's Studienqualitätsmittel (innoSQM) and runs from October 2025 to December 2026.
