Dr. Jessica Meyn

Dr. Jessica Meyn is a postdoctoral researcher in the group. In teacher education for Sachunterricht she develops, coordinates and researches the new social sciences reference subject, which started in the 2025 summer semester and links social science perspectives with ESD.
Together with Jodie Birdman she also develops and coordinates the new ESD profile in Leuphana’s profile studies for student teachers. Her research and teaching focus on the social sciences, mainly political science, and on democracy education in primary schools, with a particular interest in the conditions for participation and inclusion. She works with qualitative approaches, especially ethnography and grounded theory. Her doctoral thesis examined participation processes in heterogeneous learning groups by observing class councils in inclusive primary school classes.
After training as a teacher in special education and social sciences, she taught social studies at a secondary school. She received her doctorate from the University of Hamburg, where she was a research associate in education for people with disabilities and disadvantages, working on a project on the inclusion and participation of people with complex disabilities.
