Welcoming Dr Zintle Songqwaru: TWAS-DFG Research Fellowship at Leuphana

We are happy to welcome Dr Zintle Songqwaru at Leuphana University Lüneburg for the prestigious research fellowship of TWAS – The World Academy of Sciences and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Zintle is a senior lecturer at the Education Faculty in the Secondary and Post School Department at Rhodes University, South Africa. She brings extensive experience working with both pre-service and in-service teachers and has been involved in major national and regional initiatives such as Fundisa for Change and the SADC Sustainability Starts with Teachers programme. Zintle is also a valued colleague and collaborator with us on the Sub-Saharan Africa Teacher Leadership for ESD (SSATL-ESD) project.

During her time in Lüneburg, Zintle hopes to further strengthen the research partnership between Rhodes University and Leuphana while exploring how Education for Sustainable Development is embedded in our teacher education programmes. Reflecting on her stay, she shares:

"I want to learn more about how Leuphana is embedding ESD in its teacher education courses and to spend time with my peers at the SETRI institute. I am also looking forward to the research collaboration on ESD change projects."

From our side, the UNESCO Chair team is looking forward to deepening our collaboration on teacher leadership for ESD — and, of course, to showing Zintle around Lüneburg and the beautiful Lüneburger Heide.
