Scaling HESD Innovations

How do sustainability innovations in higher education grow beyond the niches in which they emerge? In our recent Viewpoint article we read scaling in Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD) through four recurring strategies from the niche-to-regime literature: anchoring a practice in formal regime structures, building coalitions between niche frontrunners and sympathetic regime insiders, translating the practice into vocabularies that regime actors can read, and aggregating dispersed experiments into shared learning infrastructures. This page collects examples of niche innovations that show these strategies at work, initiatives that have scaled or that make visible how scaling could work.
